Chapelle d'Ausone 2008

Chapelle d'Ausone - Chateau Ausone

9 years

A beautiful perfume of black raspberries, black cherries, black currants, licorice, damp earth, truffles and asphalt soars from this deep, full-bodied 2008. The tannins are sweet, the concentration level impressive and the wine is round and generous. It is ideal for drinking over the next 15-20 years. *** One of the finest second wines of Bordeaux, the 2008 La Chapelle d’Ausone exhibits abundant amounts of sweet blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of ripe cherries, loamy soil, licorice, and earth. This relatively evolved, fleshy, full-bodied beauty should drink well for 15 or more years. * Once again, Alain Vauthier has produced a wine that flirts with perfection. As I stated in my bottled 2006 Bordeaux report, over the last decade no proprietor has produced as many virtually perfect wines as Vauthier.

Chapelle d'Ausone - Chateau Ausone

Chapelle d’Ausone is the second wine of the famous Bordeaux wine estate Chateau Ausone. It is located in the Saint Emilion region in Bordeaux, France, and is under the directive of the Saint Emilion Appellation. The primary wine of the estate, Chateau Ausone, is one of only four wines, alongside Chateau Angelus, Cheval Blanc and Pavie to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) in the Saint-Emilion classification for wine. The winery is located on the Right Bank of France’s Bordeaux wine growing region.

Many claim the high quality wine originating from the Chateau is due to the soil composition in the area, a blend of sand and clay residing on limestone which is unique to the area. Due to the smaller nature of this vineyard, the entire harvest can be picked over the course of two afternoons.
