Le Clarence de Haut Brion 2000

Le Clarence de Haut Brion - Chateau Haut Brion

17 years

The 2000 Bahans Haut-Brion is fully mature, but I had indicated that back in 2003, giving it an anticipated maturity date of 2005-2016. Its smoky, soft berry fruit and notes of fresh porcini mushrooms intermixed with cigar tobacco and black currants are complex. This complexity is followed by a fleshy, elegant, silky wine to drink over the next 5-6 years. * Haut-Brion can be among the trickiest Bordeaux to taste young, often needing a full decade before the extraordinary complexity that marks this terroir begins to emerge. I was thrilled to see how well both the second wine, Bahans Haut-Brion, and Haut-Brion performed in this tasting, and both scores are slight upgrades.

Le Clarence de Haut Brion - Chateau Haut Brion

Le Clarence de Haut Brion is the second wine of the world renowned Chateau Haut Brion - a French wine production estate of the highest grade; its premier wine Haut Brion is classified as Premier Cru Classe (First Growth). The winery is situated in Talence, in the North of the wine growing region of Graves. The Primary wine of Chateau Haut Brion is the only wine of the five first growths that falls under the Pessac-Leognan appellation.

Le Clarence de Haut Brion has only carried this name since the vintage 2007 as it was formerly known as Bahans Haut Brion. Additionally, this prestigious Chateau also produces a dry white referred to as Haut Brion Blanc, and a further dry white wine labeled Les Plantiers du Haut Brion, relabeled as La Clarte de Haut Brion since the 2008 vintage.
