L'Eglise Clinet 2003

Chateau L'Eglise Clinet

14 years

One of Pomerol’s topnotch estates, l’Eglise Clinet is run with impeccable attention to detail, both in the vineyard and cellar, by proprietor Denis Durantou. It is typically a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a 40-year-old vineyard on the Pomerol plateau. During the torrid heat and drought of 2003, much of Pomerol was scorched, and producers whose vineyards were planted in gravel/sandy soils were forced to harvest prematurely. L’Eglise-Clinet, which had the earliest harvest in its history, has produced a light, but elegant, charming 2003 displaying plenty of sweet cherry fruit, and hints of raspberries, licorice, and new oak. While it possesses little depth, it is a medium-bodied, charmingly superficial effort to drink over the next 7-10 years.

Chateau L'Eglise Clinet

Chateau L’Eglise Clinet is a wine estate producing luxury wines of exceptional quality, based in the Pomerol Appellation in Bordeaux, France. As a fine wine from the Right Bank Chateau L’Eglise Clinet remains officially unclassified, however, the reputation and status of the Chateau is up there with the best wineries in the world.

Chateau L’Eglise Clinet spans roughly 5 hectares in the wine growing region of Pomerol, and is mainly clay and gravel. The grape variety consists of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Due to the natural slopes in and around the plots there is no excess water, which may play a part in the production of this elite wine. Annually, Chateau L’Eglise Clinet produces between 1,800 and 2,500 cases of wine.
