Rauzan Segla 1992

Chateau Rauzan Segla

25 years

One of the stars of the vintage, Rausan-Segla's 1992 is an uncommonly rich, opulent wine with an impressively saturated dark ruby/purple color, and a forceful, penetrating fragrance of black-cherries, currants, spicy oak, smoke, and flowers. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with gorgeously sweet, rich layers of fruit, ripe tannin, and a long, heady, voluptuously-textured finish. Only 50% of the production went into the 1992 Rausan-Segla, resulting in a brilliant wine for this tough vintage. Drink it over the next decade. * As a postscript, the acquisition of Rausan-Segla by the French house of Chanel in May, 1994, and the subsequent hiring of Chateau Latour's resurrectionists, David Orr and John Kolasa, suggest to me that this property is going to build on the splendid success it has enjoyed since 1983, vying with Palmer and Chateau Margaux for top honors in this appellation. Keep an eye on Rausan-Segla.
